Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Opening Junior Research Fellow (JRF) / Senior Research Fellow (SRF) Vacancy April 2014

JOB Detail:- The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage five research fellows [02-Senior Research Fellows (SRFs) and 03-Junior Research Fellows (JRFs)] (Indian National only) for a period of six years for its research project titled “Tiger re-introduction and recovery programme in Panna Tiger Reserve and the landscape complex, Madhya Pradesh: Phase-II”. Applications for the above advertised positions are invited and only short listed candidates will be called for the interview which is likely to be held during the second week of June 2014.

Age Limit:-  Age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years for the advertised position of JRF and 32 years for SRF as on Wednesday, 23rd April 2014. Upper age limit for SRF/JRF may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates  belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.
Qualification:- Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences/Biological Sciences/Veterinary Science/Social Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University and at least 2 years research experience after Post-Graduation. Prior experiences in (a) Radio-tracking of wild animals; (b) capture-recapture sampling involving camera traps; (c) Occupancy sampling; (d) socio-economic surveys; (e) Spatial analysis using Remote Sensing and GIS tools. Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Botany/Zoology /Forestry/Life Science/ Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences/Biological Sciences/Veterinary Science/Social Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. Interest and/or experience in (a) distance sampling for prey estimation; (b) Occupancy sampling; (c) study of animal behaviour including feeding habits; (c) capture-recapture sampling involving camera traps; (d) vegetation science; (e) socio-economic surveys; (e) habitat evaluation and monitoring. The Junior Research Fellows are expected to be highly motivated and have the ability to work in harsh environment, involving various field and analytical protocols. Provide support in data collection, analyses and report preparation on periodic basis on the description above and on the other emerging needs. The Senior Research Fellows are expected to be highly motivated and have the ability to work in harsh environment on dispersing tigers in the landscape, involving field sampling and satellite/GSM telemetry technologies. Liaison with Forest Officials managing different landscape units on tiger movement and threat potentials. Provide support in data collection, analyses and report preparation on periodic basis on the description above and on the other emerging needs.
